Daily Mile: Getting Cruise-Ready!

It seems we are probably going on another cruise for our 5th anniversary this year - Yay! We went for our 1st anniversary and fell in love with cruising...best vacation ever!

That said, I gotta REALLY work on getting in shape again! No more "I'll start tomorrows." I've done really good so far this week with eating well and exercise...of course, it's only been 3 days. I feel good about it, though. This time, I'm not trying to just look good (though that'll be a great bonus!)

I had a little health scare a few weeks ago and also found that some labs aren't looking as good as they did a few years ago

  • Cholesterol is a bit high. Never been before.
  • Ditto for blood pressure. Though my doc says it's "normal", "great", "perfect!" - it's WAY high from what it's usually been in the past and I don't like that.
  • My resting heart rate has gone from 56 (what my chiro said was "an athlete's resting heart rate" (huh? me? athlete?? Well I was working out 6x a week back then...) to 88 at the Bloodmobile we had at church a few weeks ago. : / Not good. I liked that "athlete" thing - something I've NEVER called or even considered myself in any way, shape or form. I'm ready to get back to that!
  • Knee and hip pain getting worse, and I know it's from carrying this extra weight.
In the immortal words of Garth Brooks: "I'm much too young to feel this darn old!"

And yeah, I wanna look HOT in my cruise pics. ; )

I started logging my walks at Daily Mile - if you're also on there, let's be friends and help motivate one another!

What's your favorite workout? What's your favorite motivation for working out? What gets ya going when you REALLY don't feel like it? Have you been on a cruise before - tell me allllllll about it!

Oh, I hope you'll have a great time on your cruise!

I recently started doing the KettleWorx program. It's just 20 minutes, three times a week, but it's supposed to be as effective as a much longer workout. It's fun to do! I'm noticing more strength and shaping, but no weight loss. I'm sure it doesn't help that I haven't been consistently avoiding junk food.

I've been doing the workouts first thing in the morning, before it gets too hot. On the mornings that I don't feel like it, I just remind myself that it's only 30 minutes (with warm up, cool down, setting up and taking out the DVD) and I can do it!

Thanks Melissa! I just found out yesterday that our Y offer a kettleball class. Pray for me as I try that out. LOL I also want to try the Zumba class...I've heard it's a great workout and FUN! As long as I can stay upright, I'll consider it a success (I am *so* uncoordinated). ;)

I'm trying to become a morning person. I got up at 5:30 this morning and walked a mile and a half with my pups around the neighborhood. Wanted to do more, but they are dachshunds and with their short lil' legs, we walked about 14 miles in dog measurement. LOL

It helps me when I commit to something like a 5k race then announce to my friends I am participating. I've logged my workouts for several years on buckeyeoutdoors.com
